After my tragic 17th breakup this month I was desperately craving beans. Now under normal circumstances most cities don’t really have a restaurant specifically for beans. Normally I have to go somewhere and look at a menu that has other options, which seeing those options can be really triggering. Being new to the area, when I saw Jack’s Beans, I about beaned my britches. Upon arriving to Jacks’s beans, the smell filled the air. The atmosphere was bustling which such a scent that the joy it brought me in that moment cannot be described in words. I thought that the smell of Busch’s Baked Beans on my stove was good, but it does not compare to the smell of Jack’s. After absorbing the scent for a moment I was taken to a table and given my bean water. The table was perfectly baked bean colored and had just the right amount of residual bean juice on it. At some point I couldn’t help but begin crying, I’d been through a recent traumatic breakup again, and at the same time I was experiencing pure heaven. My emotions were all out of wack. Had to stop by the world famous Jack’s Beans here in Kalamazoo while I was visiting my girlfriend at Western Michigan University. This is absolutely a staple of Kalamazoo, you simply have to try the beans. My personal favorite thing on the menu was the beans. I was frustrated by the beans in the toilet bowls and the bean dispensers where the soap should be. But the beans everywhere else made up for the beans I didn’t care for.

Met the love of my life here at Jacks Beans, we eat the Bean Cheesecake every year for our anniversary. Love the hands in, hands on bean service. The bean authenticity shown here is like nowhere else 10/10 beans a true bean lovers dream🫘🫘

I had heard the rumors about Jack’s Beans, but finding the establishment is a psychological ordeal in itself. I thought I knew every inch of this college campus, but Google Maps is absolutely useless here, spinning my location icon in dizzying, glitchy circles around campus. It turns out the restaurant is buried deep in the labyrinthine sub-basement. Descending into its shadowy, forgotten depths felt like walking into a tomb. Upon entering the desolate dining room, I was greeted by Jack. He seemed friendly at first, though there was a manic, sleepless gleam in his eyes as he wiped down the counter. He told me he was the caretaker and the sole architect of what he called "the ultimate bean." I sat at a booth, hoping for a menu. Instead, I found a single sheet of paper. Written on it, typed over and over again in hundreds of uneven lines, was a single phrase: > *All pintos and no garbanzos makes Jack a dull boy.* Things escalated when I got up to wash my hands. Best bean pasta I’ve ever had. We had the bean pasta and the bean ravioli. Great taste, perfect bean texture and very generous with bean amounts in pasta dish and ravioli. Ravioli is stuffed with beans and comes with bean sauce. You get to put as much Parmesan as you want. And free bread for the table. And for desert we had a bean cheesecake, which was absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately our server was a little rude to us, but other than that our experience with the food was great. Definitely would recommend and would visit again.
